In my Publication Design class, I created Wave, a travel and storytelling magazine for young adults who live for exploration and meaningful experiences. The challenge was to translate the spontaneity of travel into a cohesive editorial design that feels both raw and visually compelling.
The mission: capture the energy of travel through bold visuals and layered compositions. For the featured article, “A Not-So-Literary Tour of South-Central Mexico,” I used scanned textures, collaged maps, and silhouettes alongside travel photography to reflect the unfiltered charm of the trip. While the layouts remained clean and structured, the imagery guided readers through the narrative with rhythm and movement.
Every design decision, from typography to image-making, was made to balance expressive experimentation with readability. I combined analog and digital processes - scanning, cutting, layering, and editing in Photoshop - to build spreads that felt tactile and immersive. By developing covers, mastheads, and feature spreads together, the magazine came to life as a unified system that channels the spirit of curiosity and adventure.
